IATA revolutionizes baggage tracking

13 Jun 2025 | Travel information

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has just announced a major change in checked baggage management.
With the launch of a new global tracking program, the aim is clear: to improve baggage traceability throughout the journey, reduce losses, and simplify the passenger experience.

Digital monitoring at every stage

In concrete terms, this new system enables every piece of baggage to be tracked in real time, from check-in to delivery on the final conveyor belt. Thanks to enhanced traceability at every point of transit (boarding, stopovers, plane changes), airlines will be able to communicate more effectively with passengers and anticipate incidents.

Real time-savers for business travelers

For business travellers, this technological advance opens the way to a smoother experience. When traveling for an appointment, a trade show or a mission abroad, wasting time searching for luggage or dealing with delays is no longer an option. This new system should enable :

  • receive automatic notifications of the exact location of each piece of luggage,
  • reduce waiting times for connecting trains,
  • accelerated handling in the event of a delivery error or oversight.

Innovation focused on the customer experience

IATA’s vision is a long-term one, with transparency and fluidity at the heart of every journey. This tracking system meets a growing demand from passengers, particularly on business trips where service reliability is essential.

At Delta Voyages, we keep a close eye on technological developments that simplify business travel. This type of solution is fully in line with our commitment to accompany each customer with a tailor-made offer, anticipating the hazards of travel.
