On December 6, 2025, KLM Cityhopper’s first modernized Embraer 195-E2 made its maiden flight to Porto. This operation marks the start of a modernization program covering all 22 of the airline’s Embraer 195-E2s.
As part of this upgrade, each aircraft will be equipped with four additional Economy class seats, bringing total capacity to 136 passengers.
More capacity and a smaller carbon footprint
Thanks to this new cabin configuration, KLM Cityhopper will be able to carry more passengers and optimize revenues. At the same time, CO₂ emissions per passenger are 3% lower than with the previous Embraer 195-E2 configuration.

Gradual fleet modernization
All 22 aircraft will be modernized by June 2026. This will increase capacity from 132 to 136 seats per aircraft.
Aircraft currently stationed at Twente will also benefit from the new cabin configuration as soon as they return to service. The rate of conversion will involve upgradingone aircraft every five working days.
Lighter catering and fuel savings
The addition of seats is made possible by reducing the size of the on-board galley and optimizing its loading. This evolution reduces the weight of catering on each flight.
KLM Cityhopper will roll out this new catering process across its entire fleet. On an annual scale, this will represent a reduction of around 5 million kilograms in catering weight, saving up to 160,000 kilograms of kerosene per year.

KLM Cityhopper teams have been closely involved in this process improvement, to ensure that the new configuration remains fully operational for crews.
